Booby Socks for Breast Cancer AwarenessThis is a limited edition Pink sock, I am only getting in 10 kits so reserve your kit ASAP!!!
The design represents the following: the top section represents foot steps “walking for a cure”. The second band has pink ribbons on it. The third band is the “healthy boob band” and represents healthy breasts. The fourth band is called the “mammy boob band” and represents squashed breasts getting a mammogram. You then turn your heel, make your gussets…and when you get to the toe…you have a “star toe” since all women are “stars” in their own right. The finishing of the toe produces a nipple shape to complete the Booby Sock. $19.95 I am hoping they will be in by March 1st.

Knitting Olympics at Just 4 Ewe (Early Warning)Concept: You must cast on a project during the Opening Ceremonies of the Summer Olympics (Aug. 8)- and finish before the Olympic flame goes out (Aug. 24). That’s 17 days. So start thinking of a personal challenge for our knitting Olympics.
Rules:
The project must be a challenge for you to complete in 17 days.
There are no rules about what a challenge would be. Like the real Olympics, there are many areas to compete in. If you are a new knitter, then a garter stitch baby sweater might do…If you are experienced, well you must decide what a challenge will be for you.
While this is meant to be somewhat difficult (like the Olympics) it is not intended to ruin your life. Don’t set yourself up for failure. (Olympic athletes may cry, but they do not whine pitifully, sob and threaten members of their family with pointed sticks because they haven’t slept in five days. ) This is intended to (like the Olympics) require some measure of sacrifice, and be difficult, but it should be possible to attain.
No casting on before the flame is lit.
Finish before the flame goes out.
You may swatch before the games. (this is considered “training.”)
You will preregister and we will meet each Sunday during the games for progress checks and snacks of course. We will have a party for the final ceremonies and we will have medals!!!! This is early so you can think of what would really challenge you!! We did this the last Winter Olympics and had a blast!!!!

Cover Vets Lap robe SaturdayThanks to those of you that helped make laprobes for the Veterans. I delivered them to the VA domicary on Monday. We started at 10 am and finished 13 lap robes at 1:00pm. Thanks again!!! Some Veteran will have warm legs in this cold winter.

Gauge? Did I mention Gauge...yes I am talking to you!!!Even seasoned knitters whom I won't mention here, need to do gauge. Ok so if you are making a scarf or lap robe you don't need to do gauge but!!!!! and this is a big but here knitters, if you want to .....let's say make a hat? You had better do gauge, I can hear the sighs, I don't like to do it either but unless you have a family with heads that range from pinhead to jumbotron, I suggest before putting in all of that work, you find your gauge. Think of it this way, if you are one stitch smaller or larger per inch, than gauge calls for, it will make one inch difference very quickly depending on the size of your project. One inch on your head is a lot, so add 3 inches and you are getting into Herman Munster territory, or smaller and it's preemie size?
For illustration, suppose that a sweater is designed to measure 40" around the bustline with a gauge of 5 st/inch in the chosen stitch. Therefore, the pattern should call for 200 stitches (5 st/inch x 40") at the bustline. If you follow the pattern with a gauge of 4 st/inch, the sweater will measure 50" around the bustline (200 st / 4st/in) --10" bigger!!! too baggy! Now if you do a gauge of 6 st/inch, the sweater will measure ~33" around the bustline (200 st / 6st/inch) --7" smaller, too tight! All of that work and you can't wear it!!! This is where we get so disappointed and no one to blame but...uh huh, yourself for not taking the 30 minutes to do gauge.
So you change the gauge by adjusting the needle size, without changing the pattern, stitch, yarn, or habits of the knitter. Larger needles produce a smaller gauge (fewer stitches per inch) and smaller needles produce a larger gauge (more stitches per inch). Take a look around at other knitters, no one knitter knits the same or has the same tension. I know some of you need to grease your needles because you knit so tight, (just Kidding) but then I knit loose, so if you and I both knit on the same needles, same yarn, mine is going to be larger than yours will be, just by tension. So in order to write patterns that everyone can use and to make clothing fit, you HAVE to do gauge. Don't you hate gauge???? Embrace it and you will have more success as a knitter!!! I myself am chuckling here.
